Survival

We've survived!

Extreme sports, like extreme skiing, began a new wave of exhilarating, yet dangerous events. Then came the extreme label for things that are short and quick - like extreme dating. Dates that last for only a few minutes, then you move on to the next one. Now, witness extreme Christmas.

Our Christmas began normally, even a little slow. Kevin woke up and started to the living room to find what changes had been made overnight. As he reached the doorway to the living room, he balked and headed to our room, preferring to take some time to watch "Dragons." In all honesty, I was glad since I was no more of the desire to be awake then he was.

After we had warmed up to the idea of being awake, we headed into the living room where Kevin found Mickey and a big stuffed white dog from Grandpap. Then we had breakfast, muffins, and that's when, unknown to us, extreme Christmas began.

We began opening presents, which was, as always, fun to watch. Kevin would open a gift, we'd help him take it out and play with it a few minutes, then we'd move on to the next gift. After the first few gifts, when we'd tell him there was another present, he'd say "Oh! Thank you!"

Once all the gifts were open we discovered it was about 20 minutes until we had to leave and we were no where ready since no one had even showered yet. We let Kevin play while we got ready to leave, then whisked him to his room dressed him and let him take one toy with him as we headed to Gram's house. When we arrived, we put our gifts under the tree, had lunch, and opened gifts. Kevin had a few minutes as we opened our gifts to examine whatever he had just opened - until the end when there were only 4 presents left, all for him.

Once he had opened everything, we packed up the car, everyone said their good-byes, and we headed to my Mom's house in Virginia. At this leg of the race, we began feeling the burn. Kevin slept the whole way and we all arrived a little groggy. There, the pattern continued, we ate, exchanged gifts, and prepared to leave. Since this was the end of our journey, there was a little more time for Kevin to play with some of the things he got, but knowing that we'd have to get up early for Sunday kept us moving.

On the way home, we went through D.C. and saw the National Christmas tree. I had intended to just pass by, but decided to get out and take a look so Kevin could get a better look. As Kevin said, it's "Big." It was bitterly cold and we were ill-equipped for the weather so we didn't stay very long.

Once home, there was no time to play, it was bath, story and bed time for everyone. Although it was good to see everyone and we're very thankful for our gifts, I don't think that we a serious competitors. Extreme Christmas is not for everyone and was extremely tiring (and a bit frustrating) for all three of us.

After church, we all took naps, none of them short. I was down for at least 90 minutes, Teri for 2-2.5 hours and Kevin just got up from a 4 hour nap....it's time to go play with some of his toys (finally!).
